RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE WEEK:
Thur 8/25/11 -The Baseball Project , Dogbite formerly at the
Hygienic Art Park in New London has been moved indoors to the Crocker House Ballroom 7-11pm
The Baseball Project (Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon, and Peter Buck) write songs about baseball and have a new album called “Volume Two: High and Inside”. Unfortunately, Peter Buck will not be touring with the band due to a back ailment (see http://thebaseballproject.net/news/ ), but Sal Maida (Cracker, Roxy Music, Sparks) will be filling in on bass. While I’m not especially interested in baseball, I have been a fan of Steve Wynn since Dream Syndicate, so I’m really looking forward to seeing him with this band. I got to see him play at the old Tune Inn in New Haven about 10 years ago (with Linda Pitmon on drums) and for their second set they performed the entire Dream Syndicate “Days of Wine and Roses” album start to finish. Amazing. New London’s own Dogbite will be opening the show, with bassist Jim back in the lineup after a medical hiatus. If you aren’t familiar with Dogbite, they are a side project of Reducers guitarist Hugh Birdsall who have released two good CDs of music that they call “hard folkrootsrockblues” since 2004. Check out their music here http://www.myspace.com/dogbitegrrr and be sure to get to the show early. They will go on first at 7:00. The Hygienic Art Park is located at 79 Bank Street in New London.
