I headed to a bar in Culver City that I must have passed hundreds of times, but never noticed, to check out the country band NeonWest. It was a small little venue, complete with regulars that all knew the bartenders’ names. I met up with lead singer (and fellow east coast native) Lee Lucas and chatted for a bit before the 6 piece band took the stage. Camera in hand, I shot the band, while they played on the small stage in the quaint bar. Lee sang about knowing how she was living in the wrong town, a song all of us transplants seemed to understand. They played a slower song, I think my favorite, called “Make it rain”. And no, it is not about throwing up ones at a strip club, but how you can’t change a person-just like you can’t make it rain. I absolutely loved this song, and it brought a nice slower moment to the night. And just as quickly as that song ended, they brought it all around again with a very rock inspired song. They even played there mp3.com award winning song, “Highway”. Unfortunately, I couldn’t stick around too long afterwards, but I will definitely be checking out their next show!
