Lucky Souls – Getting Back To The Music – March 22 2012

Shen Ren at The Outer Space

After a little hiatus a couple of weeks ago, I was back to venturing out for music last week. I definitely picked the right week to head down to The Outer Space in Hamden for the weekly open mic. The feature last week was Shan Ren (http://shanrenband.com/) from China. Completely amazing! That’s all I can say & if you don’t believe me, you can check out some of the video on my youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/LuckySoulsProduction) or FB page (https://www.facebook.com/luckysoulsproductions).

Saturday rolled around & I didn’t really have much going on for St.Patricks Day (yeah, I’m lame I know!). I decided late in the day to head out & see some friends that were playing at The Twisted Vine in Derby. Heard some great music from Matt Miklus (http://www.myspace.com/mattmiklus), Sammy Blanchette (http://www.samblanchette.org/) & Adam Cyr.

And on Sunday, I had the extreme pleasure of seeing the wonderful Darrell Scott (http://www.darrellscott.com/) at Jesse Lee Church in Easton. This was part of a concert series to benefit the church. Local openers The String Fingers Bands(http://stringfingers.com/) played a great 45 minute set, then Darrell came up & just amazed the whole audience with his amazing guitar playing & incredible voice. And for an encore, Darrell brought String Fingers out to play ’Will The Circle Be Unbroken’ with him. You can check out video of that here, http://youtu.be/ZhnrokbutUI. I can’t really think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Tuesday night of this week, I headed back down to The Outer Space for Honky Tonk Tuesday. BluesGrass (http://www.myspace.com/bluesgrass) was performing & I hadn’t made it there the last time they played, so I really wanted to check them out. Glad that I did, because they were really good. It was a great way to end the beautiful first day of Spring that we had.

So, here’s a shameless plug…since I mentioned them already, I need to let you all know that Lucky Souls Productions will be presenting The String Fingers Band on Friday night, March 23rd at The Outer Space in Hamden. Opening for them will be Patrick Coman & The Lo-Fi Angels (http://patrickcoman.com/) from Boston. I hope to see you all out for this show, because I know that neither one of these bands will disappoint & if I haven’t mentioned it in past blogs, The Outer Space has a fantastic beer selection & a really cool patio to hang out on. Doors open a 7:30 & the music starts at 8 p.m., $10 cover at the door. And that’s your suggestion for this week!

Get out & support the locals everyone, both the bands & venues!

Aim D’Amaro – Lucky Souls Productions

By the time she was 12, Amy D’Amaro knew that she wanted a career that would keep her surrounded by music. At 16, she became an intern at WPLR radio in New Haven, CT where she would stay for 5 yrs learning all aspects of music programming at a commercial radio station. In the time that she was at WPLR, she also became friends with many musicians on the local scene & spent much of her time taking in music at venues all over New Haven County.

In 1993, Amy left the radio station to raise her son, but her love of music & the local scene never faded. In 2003 she began what would become a very successful dog walking & pet sitting service, but still spent much of her time checking out the local music scene in both New Haven & Fairfield Counties. In 2009 she began Lucky Souls Productions to help out the local musicians she knew by promoting their music through live video footage. In 2011, Lucky Souls grew & began booking musicians in some of the local venues. When not busy walking dogs or editing videos, Amy still spends much of her time out with friends, supporting the local music scene & venues & attending music festivals.
