I’ve kind of been lying low with not having a camera for a couple of weeks & also gearing up for Grey Fox Bluegrass Fest next week. So not very much to review for you all this week. I have, however started getting up some of the videos of Bluegrass on the Bogs. Those interested can see them on the Lucky Souls youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/LuckySoulsProduction).
This week, I am back in action. My ‘nused’ camera arrived yesterday & I’m ready to get out for some music! And there is plenty, plenty of it happening this weekend.
The place to be (in my opinion anyway) this Friday the 13th is Café Nine(http://cafenine.com/) in New Haven. The amazing Lake Street Dive(http://lakestreetdive.com/) will be returning there for an evening of music with Raise the Rent(http://raisetherentmusic.com/) opening for them at 9 p.m. If you aren’t familiar with Lake Street Dive, they are an incredible band & well worth seeing for the $8 cover. Great songs, great musicians & great stage presence. Check out this video to see what they’re all about: http://youtu.be/i4ilIa0VHrk. I can bet it’ll make you want to look up more of their videos on youtube.
And if you get a chance before heading to the 9 on Friday or if you just want to be outdoors for the evening, there is a free show at Town Center Park, 2761 Dixwell Ave, Hamden featuring Washboard Slim & The Bluelights(http://www.washboardslim.com/) opening for NRBQ(http://www.nrbq.com/).That show starts at 7:30. Again, it’s free & family friendly too! Bring your chairs & coolers if you plan on heading that way.
There are two more family friendly events taking place this weekend.
On Saturday, The 38th Annual Roxbury Pickin’ & Fiddlin’ Contest is happening. It starts at 2 p.m. at Hurlburt Park, 18 Apple Lane, Roxbury. There’s a $10 admission, & kids under 10 are free. This is really a nice day for the whole family & the contestants are very talented local folks. Registration for the contestants starts at 1:30 & you can see the categories here, http://www.pickinnfiddlin.com/, if you think you may be interested in entering the contest.
Sunday brings The 2nd Annual Sounds of Summer Festival to Town Center Park in Hamden, with some great local bands playing, including The Ivory Bills(http://jamesvelvet.com/) & Parkers Tangent(http://www.myspace.com/parkerstangent). Another free event & family & pet friendly too! Sounds like a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Have a great couple of weeks everyone & don’t forget to get out & support the musicians & venues!
