Mallet Bros and Friends

Mallet Bros and Friends

I HAVE BEEN SICK NOW FOR  2 WEEKS…Which is why there was no lsg spot last week and why this one will be…sparse.  But, I didn’t want this week to go by without a blog because there are so many amazing things happening in CT music!

AFTER BEING COMPLETELY DRAINED after the festivities at the First Annual CT Music Awards show, I laid low last weekend for the most part.  We did get out to Arch Street Tavern to check out favorites, The Mallet Brothers, along with Waylon Speed.  Unfortunately, I arrived in time only to see a couple of Mallet Brothers tunes.  Great per usual.  And then came Waylon Speed.  I was told I really needed to get to Arch to see their set…and glad I did.  They are a band out of Burlington, VT who describe themselves as “Underground Outlaw Dirt Rock”.  It fits, actually.  They high geared through their set and kept the crowd going.  I scored their CD “Valance” and will let you know about that soon.

THE GRAND BAND SLAM SHOWCASE was amazing!  I only managed to make it out to Friday night in Hartford but we did it up right!  We caught sets by Down Monday, Fatgrip, McLovins, Jennifer Hill & Co, NightBitch, Vengeance, Dead by Wednesday.  I’m sure I am forgetting someone.   I am so glad I caught the metal set at Arch Street. Made me recall that, despite all the genres of music I follow and love, I am a metal girl at heart.  Congrats, again, to all the nominees and winners.  The whole experience was amazing for everyone involved, including yours truly.  I can’t wait to see (and hear) what the coming year will bring from everyone in the CT Music Scene.

Props to the boys in Mandrake Mechanism for bringing the best party prop ever!  #rookproblems  #masksforall

DUDES!  I GOT TO SHOOT KISS!  Yes!  I had the pleasure of photographing the legendary, KISS, on the final stop of their tour with Motley Crue last Sunday at Comcast in Hartford.  What a show!  Although they’ve been around for eons, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, still know how to strike a pose and churn out the rock n roll all night!  One of the best times I’ve had shooting a band so far.  Many thanks, as always, to Matt at Live Nation for the hospitality!

Here are my pictures!

AND IF THAT WASN’T ENOUGH…I also caught  Tremonti (Mark Tremonti, of Creed and Alter Bridge fame’s band) at Club INT on Tuesday.  I was a bit skeptical about it as I am not a Creed fan(sorry to those of you who are) but did they bring it!  What an amazing rock band!  And…for added delightfulness…he brought along Wolfgang Van Halen (yup, his daddy is the one and only, Eddie!) on bass.  Talk about star power.  The huge crowd (you should have seen the line around the building on a Tuesday night!) was treated to a hard rocking set by Tremonti along with openers, Lansdowne (out of MA) and Man the Mighty.  And who was checking out the show from local bands?  Mike Smolack, Duncan MacIntyre, Vic Arduini, and Tommy Blardo!  You should check out more of what’s happening at Club INT and at Great Hall by liking these pages!!

And here are my pics… I didn’t get any really good shots of young Van Halen who, very graciously I think, kept to the shadows during the set.

ANOTHER ACADEMIC YEAR IS UPON US which means the Monday night music series at Red and Black Café in Middletown (at Wesleyan) have begun.  Local Homegrown expert, Robbie DeRosa, brings live music to the café each Monday night at dinner time.  Leave the kitchen.  Go to Middletown and enjoy food and live music.  What better way to start the week than with a little Homegrown?

Check out and “like” this page for more of Rob’s stuff!

A REALLY COOL BENEFIT SHOW is going on this Saturday afternoon for guitarist, Randy Collins, who was injured while working and has been in the hospital now for a few months.  His local musician friends have put together a fine afternoon of music tell help him out.  Getting by with a little help from his friends, indeed.  Local musicians supporting local musicians.  See the links below for more information!,0,1351256.story

Lover of music and the visual arts, Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez is the insanity behind lsg original photography. lsg specializes in artist and performer photography. She’s had the honor of photographing national bands such as Weezer, Snoop Dogg, A Simple Plan, Paramore, Whitesnake, Wye Oak, and The Antlers along with countless local bands and performers.

Hailing from Hartford, CT, Lisa is a life- long music connoisseur. Growing up, her mother exposed her to everything from The Stones to Simon and Garfunkel to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Loretta Lynn…and everything in between. No genre was left unexplored in her vinyl collection. She saw her first concert at 14…Rod Stewart at the (then called) Hartford Civic Center. Thirty years later, it’s still her favorite pastime.

Lisa has two kids (grown!) and a day job. Her loves of music and photography have melded into a second career. And her love of CT keeps her promoting and pushing for local artists and performers. Lisa spends the greater part of her free time seeing and shooting live bands, performers, and artists and art work…and purchasing vinyl!
