HOT Rewind

Converge

Converge

FRIDAY NIGHT WAS ONE OF THOSE NIGHTS when I wished I could be at least 3 people or have the ability to instantaneously transport among venues!  I started out at Indie Night at the Oak in Hartford for their first show with Karl and Rachel producing.  Excellent performances by CT Music Award nominees Becky Kessler and Hannah Fair.  It was the first time I was able to catch Hannah Fair and I am so glad I did.  Lovely and talented, Jennifer Hill (also a nominee), was also on the bill but, alas, I did not catch her set because I was OFF to the next venue!  Good job, Karl and Rachel.  Can’t wait for next month!  On to Club INT in New Britain we went just in time to see the end of Torche’s set and the beginning of Converge.  It’s tough when we have so much goodness happening on any given night because I just couldn’t choose!  The place was absolutely packed to the rafters and what a show!  I have

heard from folks who caught the entire thing and the common theme is “Dude.  You should have stayed.  It was AWESOME!”  But on to venue number three to try and catch the end of Buckcherry at The Great Hall in Hartford.  Epic fail on my part…I arrived just as the crowd started filing out of the building.  Damn!  I hear it was also a great show.  Sigh…Such a problem.  All this great damned music going on in CT!  lol!  Get out there and enjoy it, people!!  Here are a few shots from the Converge show!  http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.395091337226291.88605.123226597746101&type=3

HARTFORD HODGEPODGE WAS A GO this weekend past weekend.  And what a great day!  It was a terrific fall day on Pratt Street in Hartford.  It was a colorful array of food, crafts, art and, of course, music!  I lament the fact that I missed The Rivergodsand hope to catch up with them one of these days.  I

Klokwize

was gifted with lots of music from them so thanks much to Nancy and Ben!!  I did, however, catch my buds in Klokwize, who were terrific per usual, along with Rook and Chris from Mandrake Mechanism.  Rook and Klok sat in with The Rivergods and Rook sat in with Klokwize.  So you just never know what magic can happen at Hodgepodge!  I spent a lovely afternoon with all of them.  You should get out there this Sunday and check out Daphne Lee Martin!    Here are a couple of shots from Hodgepodge!  http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.395689777166447.88780.123226597746101&type=3

Voice of the City

Voice of the City

IF YOU WERE LISTENING TO VOICE of the CITY Tuesday at 8:00 pm on WESU 88.1, you heard my voice along with J-Cherry talking Local Band Review, lsg original, and local music in general.  I have to tell you, it was a whole heap of fun!  I was able to play a few songs from Freezy, Stark Raving LuLu, Superart, and Hannah Fair along the way.  You should check out her show weekly.  It’s chock full of local information and music!  PS to Dr. Freddy H Carroll…That hip hop conversation to be continued, pal!!

IT WAS CELEBRATION WEEK for me and anyone else happily awaiting the release of the Led Zeppelin concert movie, Celebration Day.  The film is a complete recap of the show they did in London 5 years ago with Jason Bonham sitting in place of his Dad on drums.  It only played for 2 days in theaters and is now available on DVD.  Go get it and have a screening of your own.  Discover or rediscover your love for Led Zeppelin.  I sure did.

I am shamelessly stealing the observations of Rob Bouthet because he pretty much summed up what we saw. Observations from the Led Zeppelin Celebration Day movie.

  1. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page both look like their faces are melting.
  2. Jimmy Page has lost a step or two but is still amazing.
  3. Robert Plant no longer has the range but knows what to do with what he has.
  4. JPJ is still the glue that holds the band together. Technically brilliant.
  5. Jason Bonham is awesome and a lot of fun to watch.
  6. They were incredibly tight for a one off performance.
  7. JPJ uses new equipment.
  8. Looks like Page hasn’t bought a new guitar in 30 years.
  9. Jason Bonham’s kit looked identical to his Dad’s in Song Remains the Same.
  10. They were wired up old school using on stage monitors. No earpieces.
  11. They should not tour. Ever. They pulled this show off. They looked like they were having fun. Doing it every night would make them like The Stones and kill the magic.

Angry Chair Salon

Angry Chair Salon

IT’S NOT YOUR MOM’S HAIR SALON by any means.  You know it when you walk in.  Pictures of local band clientele adorn the walls.  Music…mostly rock…thumps throughout the space.  And Dave Sidlik is leader of a band of colorful artists ready to rock your hair.  Welcome to The Angry Chair.  Located on the Berlin Turnpike in Newington, it IS where the cool kids flock for edgy cuts and any hair color…or colors…you can imagine.  I received the rock n roll treatment on my trip in on Thursday night.  Dave and his staff are knowledgeable and cutting edge…and a whole lotta fun!  And in comes Tommy Lourdes (local rock n roll musician)…Did I mention it was a rock n roll salon?  Make your appointment today!!

I’M NOT SURE IF THIS IS TOO LATE BUT…please help us out and go to The New Paradigm Theatre facebook page and “like” Kevin Durkee’s video ( listed on the right) on their page to help him win the “So Ya Wanna Be a Broadway Star” competition– he’s singing on Saturday– pass around to all your friends– every “like” counts– thank you https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-New-Paradigm-Theatre/112332212178935
Be sure and click on his video listed on the right not just on the page!!!!

Peace out, everyone!  And as always…

Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez – lsg Original

Lover of music and the visual arts, Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez is the insanity behind lsg original photography. lsg specializes in artist and performer photography. She’s had the honor of photographing national bands such as Weezer, Snoop Dogg, A Simple Plan, Paramore, Whitesnake, Wye Oak, and The Antlers along with countless local bands and performers.

Hailing from Hartford, CT, Lisa is a life- long music connoisseur. Growing up, her mother exposed her to everything from The Stones to Simon and Garfunkel to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Loretta Lynn…and everything in between. No genre was left unexplored in her vinyl collection. She saw her first concert at 14…Rod Stewart at the (then called) Hartford Civic Center. Thirty years later, it’s still her favorite pastime.

Lisa has two kids (grown!) and a day job. Her loves of music and photography have melded into a second career. And her love of CT keeps her promoting and pushing for local artists and performers. Lisa spends the greater part of her free time seeing and shooting live bands, performers, and artists and art work…and purchasing vinyl!
