“Spot”light on… HARTFORD HODGEPODGE
HARTFORD HODGEPODGE was cancelled last week due to rain. But the show should go on again this Sunday with musical guests The Rivergods and Klokwize starting at 2:00 pm. Get down there. Enjoy a day of food, crafts, and music. Noon-6 pm and it’s FREE admission!
You haven’t had a “Sunday Funday” in Hartford until now! The inaugural Sunday for Hartford Hodgepodge is this weekend. Hodgepodge is part street fair, part festival, and part bazaar that will include vendors of all sorts – food, crafts, apparel, etc. – along with music each week on Pratt Street downtown from noon-6 pm. Admission is Free!
Added bonus – it will be very kid friendly and will include hands-on arts. Nina Salazar, owner of Studio N11at Dirt Salon in Hartford, will be conducting some art “workshops” during Hodgepodge. “I don’t have all of them buttoned down yet”, she said, “but here’s what I have so far…” Weekly actives will include: small art, small canvas, oil pastels on canvas, mask making near Halloween, still life sketching, and community weaving with hoolahoops and found materials to celebrate our multicultural city. Of course, all of the activities are supply dependent and Nina is hoping everyone can help out by donating fabrics and hoola-hoops (You KNOW you’ve got one in the basement that isn’t being used anymore!) All activities are free. Nina is owner and operator of Studio N11 and will be moving her studio to Pratt Street very soon! http://www.facebook.com/Art.Studion111 )
Hodgepodge is the brainchild of T.J. Clynch, founder of Civic Mind, collaborating along with the Business Improvement District (BID), the City of Hartford (MECA), and ProPark. Said Stephanie Lynn, organizer with Civic Mind, “T.J. is all about creating happier communities through events that are about family, food, music. He’s into sports and health and wellness and he’s trying to find ways to bring that all together and really highlight the great things that are happening in Hartford.”
Each week, Hodgepodge will center on a new theme. First up…”Circus”. Add to that a few local music acts each week and you’ve got a wonderful and festive Sunday afternoon all wrapped up in one place for the family.
The vendors and musical acts will change by week so each will bring new and interesting things to eat, drink, and purchase. (Hint: Maybe some local art for a Christmas gift?) In addition, Hodgepodge will be tying in with a different restaurant weekly to offer some sort of discount or special for dinner. How convenient! Go to Pratt Street then dinner with the family at a local eatery. This week, The BruHaHa Comedy club (right across the street on Main) will have a free comedy show at 7:00 pm.
Of course, since we are Local Band Review, I am really excited about the bands that are lined up for you to check out…again, FREE…every week. There are some Grand Band Slam winners included and all represent multiple genres and cities in CT. Some of them are Daphne Lee Martin, Isaac Young Quartet, Hannah Fare, Rivergods, Klokwize, and OH MY! See the full list scheduled so far below! Music will generally be from 2-4 pm.
So, if you aren’t interested in football (or your team just bites this year like the Dolphins!) or you need a break from the tube and wanna hang with the fam, go to Hartford. Admission is Free and parking is Free on the streets as well as a few parking garages in the area (ie Morgan Street). Let’s help make this a fall tradition in downtown Hartford!!
