HOT spotlight – Emerge Festival

Emerge Festival

NOT SURE WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND IN CT FOR LIVE MUSIC?  Well, the folks at Emerge Festival – and namely Chip McCabe – have made the decision fairly simple.  Get to Arch Street Tavern in Hartford http://nectarspresents.com/ this coming Saturday (3/2) and Sunday (3/3) for 13 of CT’s best acts!

There’s something for everyone here in this 2-day event.  Many of the bands have just recently released or are on the cusp of releasing new records.  I am pretty stoked to see so many bands under one roof that are some of my favorites as well as a couple that I haven’t seen before (HOW is that possible?)

So what IS Emerge Festival, you ask?  “Emerge Fest is a 2-day music festival to raise money for bands trying to tour in South By Southwest.  We did a show last year with M.T. Bearington to help raise money for them.  So I got this idea for a festival, because I like grandiose ideas”, says Emerge Fest Founder, Chip McCabe (of Chip’s Unnamed Band Show and Live & Local fame.)

Cost of entry is $7 or $12 (2 day pass) in Advance:

or $10 or $15 (2 day pass) at the door.

All proceeds will be distributed to the bands attending SXSW to help defray their costs to perform there.  “Unfortunately”, adds Chip, “I was only aware of 3 bands playing SXSW when we put this together.  I had no idea Lord Fowl is also playing until someone posted it on the Emerge FB page.”  At that point, it was too late to add them to the bill.  In order to help Chip in planning for Emerge Fest 2014, he will be looking for submissions at the end of the year so bands who are planning to play SXSW can participate in Emerge.

Special-edition show posters will be sold at the venue, with proceeds going to the bands.  There will also be merch tables set up for the bands to sell their individual records and other swag.

Below is the line up for both days.  If you aren’t already acquainted with each band, we give you a video for each.

Please give some love to Lord Fowl and wish them well on their SXSW adventure too.

Go to one day.  Go to both (you REALLY should)!  But make sure you get down to Arch Street this weekend and help support our local bands going to SXSW.  We are VERY proud to have them represent the CT music scene in Austin!!

Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez – lsg Original

Lover of music and the visual arts, Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez is the insanity behind lsg original photography. lsg specializes in artist and performer photography. She’s had the honor of photographing national bands such as Weezer, Snoop Dogg, A Simple Plan, Paramore, Whitesnake, Wye Oak, and The Antlers along with countless local bands and performers.

Hailing from Hartford, CT, Lisa is a life- long music connoisseur. Growing up, her mother exposed her to everything from The Stones to Simon and Garfunkel to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Loretta Lynn…and everything in between. No genre was left unexplored in her vinyl collection. She saw her first concert at 14…Rod Stewart at the (then called) Hartford Civic Center. Thirty years later, it’s still her favorite pastime.

Lisa has two kids (grown!) and a day job. Her loves of music and photography have melded into a second career. And her love of CT keeps her promoting and pushing for local artists and performers. Lisa spends the greater part of her free time seeing and shooting live bands, performers, and artists and art work…and purchasing vinyl!
