HOT Rewind

First…We love you, Boston.  We are with you.  And we understand.  Peace.

Isaac Young Quartet

Isaac Young Quartet

NOT ONE BUT TWO, CD release shows happened on Friday night.  The first was held a J.Rene Coffee Roasters in West Hartford where the Isaac Young Quartet released their CD, Staved Eve, to an overflowing crowd.  IYQ performed 2 lively sets that included cameo appearances by Jennifer Hill and Eve Windebank  on vocals.  It was truly overwhelming to see the number of local musicians who turned out to support IYQ.  I’ve had the chance to listen to this CD (see What’s in the Flounce?) and we’ll also give you an in-depth review shortly.  Pick up his CD at

That same night, the second release came from String Theorie.  They released their CD, Live at La Paloma Sabanera, at a big show at Arch Street Tavern in Hartford.  They brought along their friends 1974 Ugly and Post-Modern Panic (in which Karl Messerschmidt played double band duty).  The bands performed 2 sets each during the evening in rotation which was fun.  In addition, Isaac Young sat in with String Theorie for a song and Jordan Critchley sat in with 1974 for a song.  The cross playing was epic!  The place was packed it was a high energy, amazing evening all around.  I have also had the opportunity to listen to the new String Theorie CD (although it wasn’t in the Flounce as it’s a download) and we’ll also be giving you a review of that one too shortly.  Buy their CD at

Congratulations to both Isaac Young Quartet and String Theorie for their new releases and thanks for throwing two helluva amazing release parties!

Alternate Routes Win

Alternate Routes Win

CT TOOK HOME BEST ROCK ACT Saturday night at the 2nd Annual New England Music Awards.  The honor went to The Alternate Routes from Bridgeport.  In addition, Poor Old Shine from Storrs took the honor of Best Band in CT.  27 awards in all were given out including 4 Honor Awards.  In addition, the crowd were treated to performances by The Alternate Routes with Sarah Blacker (from MA), Hot Day at the Zoo, Air Traffic Controller, and Adam Ezra Group among others.  It was great to see CT folks like Jennifer Hill, Becky Kessler, Isaac Young, and Ryan Holmes from Echo and Drake in attendance.  But the highlight of the evening for me came when Adam Ezra invited all of the bands and many other musicians onto the stage for a New England All Star jam to The Band’s classic, The Weight.  It was New England goodness to be sure.

Check out that amazing performance here:

Shout out to the ladies of, Jenna and Jess, for being our travelling partners to the show.  We had a blast!

Congrats go out to all of the winners, as well as the CT nominees – YOU MAKE US ALL PROUD! – and to Joe Graham and the team for pulling off a wonderful evening for all of us.

This is the full list of winners.

Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez – lsg Original

Lover of music and the visual arts, Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez is the insanity behind lsg original photography. lsg specializes in artist and performer photography. She’s had the honor of photographing national bands such as Weezer, Snoop Dogg, A Simple Plan, Paramore, Whitesnake, Wye Oak, and The Antlers along with countless local bands and performers.

Hailing from Hartford, CT, Lisa is a life- long music connoisseur. Growing up, her mother exposed her to everything from The Stones to Simon and Garfunkel to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Loretta Lynn…and everything in between. No genre was left unexplored in her vinyl collection. She saw her first concert at 14…Rod Stewart at the (then called) Hartford Civic Center. Thirty years later, it’s still her favorite pastime.

Lisa has two kids (grown!) and a day job. Her loves of music and photography have melded into a second career. And her love of CT keeps her promoting and pushing for local artists and performers. Lisa spends the greater part of her free time seeing and shooting live bands, performers, and artists and art work…and purchasing vinyl!
