You’ve are a nominee for “Best New Band” at the Connecticut Music Awards.  In one sentence, what is your reaction to that?

We are just happy to be a part of this awesome and growing music scene in CT. There are so many great bands and musicians and we are just happy to be recognized in any way

How long has your band been together?

We have been together for more or less two years.

What’s your latest release and what do you want folks to know about it?

We’ll be releasing our debut EP in September that we recorded at Telefunken Studios on South Windsor.

What’s in store for you for the next year?

As a band, we are just trying to work hard to get as tight as we can. There are plans to try to write a lot over the next year and try to keep putting out as much music as we can. We are trying to work on our live show and try to expand into other markets and venues as well.

CTMA’s has a Red Carpet?  What will you be wearing?

With 14 of us coming to the awards, I can assure you that we will not match. The only thing that I am certain of is that we will be dressed to have a good time and enjoy this great event. (Editor’s note: Holy Shit!  Fourteen????)

“Spot”light on… CTMA BEST NEW BAND NOMINEE – HANGING HILLS

Hanging Hills

Hanging Hills

How long has your band been together? (If you are a single artist, how long have you been working as a musician?)

It started off with Mike Arcata (our drummer) and I (Greg, vocals/guitar) as G.W. Dyson and M. Arcata, playing coffee shops and stuff back in 2010, but I got sick of the songs and started getting into different genres. We decided a duo wasn’t fulfilling a lush enough sound, so we started adding various members in, and it wasn’t until about a year and a half ago that we got Elliott Woolworth (lead guitar) in the band. That’s when I would say Hanging Hills was born. Also, Ross Page, our bassist, is brand new to the band and he’s awesome.

What’s your latest release and what do you want folks to know about it?

The Great Divide is our debut full length album, which will be released on June 10th. We will forever owe a massive THANK YOU to our fans, families, and friends who helped us fund this album by raising over $5,000 through a Kickstarter campaign we launched in early December. With that money we were able to record at Fortune Studios in New London, CT with Andrew Oedel, a very talented, up-and-coming, whippersnapper of a producer who already has quite a few incredible projects under his belt. (www.andrewoedel.com) We hope you all enjoy!

What’s in store for you for the next year?

We’ll be heading out on tour down the east coast and up through the midwest during the last 2 weeks of June. We’re looking forward to this since it will be our first time out on the road in support of an album. Between now and the rest of this year, we’ll be playing shows and peddling our wares throughout New England and beyond.

CTMA’s has a Red Carpet? What will you be wearing?

Prom dresses.

Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez – lsg Original

Lover of music and the visual arts, Lisa Sanchez Gonzalez is the insanity behind lsg original photography. lsg specializes in artist and performer photography. She’s had the honor of photographing national bands such as Weezer, Snoop Dogg, A Simple Plan, Paramore, Whitesnake, Wye Oak, and The Antlers along with countless local bands and performers.

Hailing from Hartford, CT, Lisa is a life- long music connoisseur. Growing up, her mother exposed her to everything from The Stones to Simon and Garfunkel to Earth, Wind, and Fire to Loretta Lynn…and everything in between. No genre was left unexplored in her vinyl collection. She saw her first concert at 14…Rod Stewart at the (then called) Hartford Civic Center. Thirty years later, it’s still her favorite pastime.

Lisa has two kids (grown!) and a day job. Her loves of music and photography have melded into a second career. And her love of CT keeps her promoting and pushing for local artists and performers. Lisa spends the greater part of her free time seeing and shooting live bands, performers, and artists and art work…and purchasing vinyl!
